The Piedmont Environmental Center is a valuable resource for High Point North Carolina. The center employs expert naturalists and there are educational facilities for families, schools and youth groups. Learning is done in the classroom and out in the field. There is the opportunity to go hiking on eleven miles of trails or to go canoeing or kayaking. The nature preserve covers 375 acres and is next to the High Point City Lake. It's educational but great fun too and the program includes learning how to identify plants, mushrooms and minerals.

The city is fortunate in having its own professional theatre company. The High Point Theatre hosts the productions of the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival and other classic and contemporary works are produced.
