Store them wound up when not in use, but do not wind them tightly. No matter what you do, never wind them around your hand and elbow. That causes breakage within the wires. As for other types of cables, you want to use the same care. You may have phone wire or Ethernet cables, and those are very fragile. There are other types that you may use for hooking up your monitor or other large pieces like your printers.
