When I was appointed to organize the corporate Christmas party for our division, I was not at all excited about it. It seemed like a hard, thankless job. I pretty much grew up on crime comics. My dad was a pretty serious comic book collector, you see, and he loved to share his favorite titles with me. I like the vintage comics in general. I enjoyed his superhero comics, the kid comics geared to a younger audience, and pretty much everything else he had. The crime comics, however, were my favorite ones of all. There was so much mystery and suspense in them. You never knew what was going to happen next. There were mistaken identities, damsels in distress, evil plots, brave heroes, and dastardly traps. Basically, crime comic books have everything a young imagination could possibly desire. I was pretty surprised when I found out that crime comics had at one point been banned because of their gruesome and gory pictures.

Nothing captures the excitement of a band more than seeing them live. Luckily for those who couldn't get a ticket, there are live concert DVDs that bring us the best artists from the best venues. One of the most charismatic performers was Freddie Mercury and Queen – The DVD Collection: Live at Wembley Stadium is a thrilling recording of the entire concert in 1986 with bonus features. Queen blasts out the familiar hits to a light show, including Radio Ga Ga, One Vision, Another One Bites the Dust and Bohemian Rhapsody. The camerawork is particularly good, using multi angles and aerial shots. There are interviews with Roger Taylor and Brian May, a backstage documentary, rehearsal footage and a picture gallery.

The prestigious Oxford University was used for many scenes at Hogwarts School, its magnificent architecture of cloisters and archways being perfect for the job. Staircases in the University were featured along with the Great Hall, which was the inspiration for Hogwart's Dining Room. The University Library served as Hogwart's Hospital Infirmary. The Gloucester part of the Harry Potter Tour includes the wonderful Norman Cathedral, which was used in scenes involving ghosts and talking portraits in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the first in the series. The Moaning Myrtle scenes in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and scenes from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince were also shot in Gloucester Cathedral.

Fans followed the on / off romance between Rachel and Ross, played by David Schwimmer, which culminated in them finally getting together in the last episode. In real life, Jennifer Aniston married Brad Pitt in a whirl of publicity in 2000. Sadly, the marriage came to an end and the couple was divorced five years later. They had been one of the most famous couples in the world. Along with praise for her acting and for the show came an obsession with her hair-do, which became known as the Rachel. Women would walk into hair salons and ask for their hair to be cut just like Jennifer Aniston's.

I loved the feeling of zooming over waterfalls and through canyons or rocketing up in a spaceship. I also really liked going to the Boston planetarium. The announcer there was pretty funny. A lot of science museums have pretty corny people manning the planetarium, but the Boston Museum of science guy was kind of different. He always tell humorous jokes and get us laughing. I remember being impressed with him when I finally met the Boston Museum of Sciences Planetarium curator. He seemed to know more about the solar system than anyone else. I was able to meet him on a couple of occasions, and when I did, it was cool to be able to pick his brains. I would always ask him about the possibility of life on another planets. I'm sure he got asked that all the time, but he had patience for all of my questions.

Stories like Sleeping Beauty as well as many of the other classic Disney fairy tales came from stories that were actually a lot darker to begin with. They do not always have happy endings and were meant to be morally instructive. Many of them were cautionary tales, warning little children to be careful about their actions lest there be harmful consequences. With Disney movies, however, all this message is stripped away. Instead, you have light, entertaining, escapist fluff – the perfect antidote for a slow afternoon. That is why kids love Disney films so much. Kids love worlds of make-believe, and Walt Disney productions consistently delivers the best ones there are. The animation is always cutting edge, the characters are often pretty unique, and the stories are complex enough to be entertaining while not getting too burdened with overly complex plot and character development.

The thing that I have noticed about comedy movies is that it can be really hard to figure out ahead of time what you are going to like and what you are going to not be as in to. For example, take the movie "Dodgeball." I only went to that comedy movie Because some of my friends were really into seeing it. I really didn't expect to like it that much to be honest. Nonetheless, once it started I was really digging it. It was a lot of fun. It was actually one of the funniest comedy movies I saw all year. I had expected it to be just frat boy humor, but it had an appeal that was much more universal than that. One thing that I've never personally been into is romantic comedies. My girlfriend takes me along to them sometimes, but they just aren't really my bag.

When I took my children to see the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, they all came out wanting to get pirate flags. I can't blame them. The action and adventure in that movie was contagious.
